INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Court of Appeals is reviewing Richard Allen’s conviction in the murders of Delphi teens Abby Williams and Libby German. Attorneys for Allen argued Monday that his prison confessions were unreliable and that key evidence was improperly excluded from his trial. State attorneys countered that Allen’s confessions were voluntary and that jurors heard extensive evidence supporting the conviction. A ruling from the appeals court is expected at a later date.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Attorneys for Richard Allen are asking the Indiana Court of Appeals to overturn his murder conviction in the deaths of Delphi teens Libby German and Abby Williams.
Arguments are scheduled for Monday, focused on claims involving search warrants, Allen’s confessions and trial court rulings. Allen was convicted and sentenced to 130 years in prison for the 2017 murders. The appeals court will determine whether he received a fair trial, not whether he is guilty or innocent.

UPDATE (November 12, 2025):
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The defense attorneys for convicted Delphi murderer Richard Allen have submitted new evidence in their appeal of his conviction.
They filed 1,200 pages of new evidence on Monday from the September 2023 Franks hearing, containing depositions of key investigators and evidence related to the Odinism theory.
A lot of the evidence came in the form of posts made by a man named Brad Holder, who is a confirmed Odinist and was looked at as a possible suspect. Holder’s daughter was friends with one of the two girls who was killed in February 2017 on a hiking trail in Delphi.

UPDATE (September 3, 2025):
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Attorneys for convicted Delphi double murderer Richard Allen are asking the Indiana Court of Appeals for an extension of their September 5 deadline to submit their brief. Mark Leeman and Stacy Uliana say they need more time to get their case ready.
Allen is serving 130 years in prison for killing Abby Williams and Libby German near the Monon High Bridge in February 2017 and was sentenced in December 2024. He was sent to Oklahoma under an interstate compact agreement with Indiana.

UPDATE (July 21, 2025):
(ADAMS) – Richard Allen, the man convicted of the February 2017 murders of teenagers Abby Williams and Libby German on a trail in Delphi, has been transferred to a prison in Oklahoma.
Allen was sentenced to 130 years in prison and given credit for 786 days served. He is now held in the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center in Lexington, Oklahoma.
That is a maximum security state prison in that state, and officials have not revealed the reason for the transfer.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The defense attorneys for Richard Allen are asking a judge to vacate his conviction for the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German. Allen was convicted in November of their deaths in 2017 and sentenced to 130 years in prison.
His attorneys mention a possible confession from another person in their 24-page motion along with the validity of his safekeeping order. They are also planning to appeal Allen’s conviction.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The State’s Public Defender is pursuing permission to appoint two lawyers as appellate counsel for Richard Allen. He was convicted of the 2017 murders of Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi.
A trial judge approved a defense request to have the State Public Defender choose lawyers for Allen’s appeal as he serves a 130-year sentence.
This week, the State Public Defender motioned to appoint more than one lawyer to the appeal.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – Richard Allen is set to be sentenced for the murder of two teenage girls in Delphi more than seven years ago. A jury convicted Allen in 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German’s 2017 deaths in November.
He’s facing between 45 and 130 years or two of the four counts Allen was convicted of. The judge will hear impact statements from the victims’ families before Allen learns his fate in the Carroll County Courthouse.
Allen is expected to appeal.

UPDATE (November 12, 2024):
DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – A jury says Richard Allen is guilty of the murders of two middle school girls in Delphi, Indiana. Allen was found guilty by jurors selected from Allen County on Monday. Jurors started deliberating Thursday and continued Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
Allen pleaded not guilty to the 2017 killings of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German. The girls had been hanging out at a trail in Delphi, where Allen forced them down a hill and cut their throats.
Allen is scheduled for sentencing on December 20th.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The jury will resume deliberations today in the Delphi double murder trial of Richard Allen.
He was charged with killing Libby German and Abby Williams on February 13th, 2017 when the girls were near the Monon High Bridge. Jurors deliberated for 14-and-a-half hours Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before taking yesterday off.

The jury began deliberating Thursday after Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland delivered closing arguments for the state and Defense attorney Brad Rozzi delivered the defense’s closing arguments. The jury will decide if Richard Alen is guilty of murder in the 2017 deaths of Abby Williams and Libby German. The Allen County jurors will deliberate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday until a verdict is reached.

DElPHI., Ind. (ADAMS) – The defense has rested its case in the Delphi murders trial. Richard Allen is accused of murdering Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi in 2017.
Allen’s trial began on October 12th. The prosecution rested its case on day 12, and the defense rested on the 17th day. Lawyers said Allen would not be testifying in his own defense.
Closing arguments from the prosecution and defense are expected in the Allen County courtroom on Thursday. Each side will get two and a half hours to speak.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – Family members of Delphi double murder suspect Richard Allen have been called to the witness stand in his trial.
His daughter Brittney Zapanta and half-sister Jaimie Jones both testified that Allen never molested either of them and they would not lie for him.
Zapanta was asked if her father ever took her on the trails where Abby Williams and Libby German were killed in 2017, and she says they crossed the Monon High Bridge once or twice.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The double murder trial of Richard Allen resumes at 9 a.m. today in Delphi. Jurors took yesterday off after they were shown 15 videos of Allen in the Westville Correctional Facility in LaPorte County on Saturday.
In some of the videos, he was naked and the screen was pointed only at the jury to protect his privacy.
He is charged with killing Abby Williams and Libby German in 2017.

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Jurors in the Delphi double murder trial are seeing recordings of Richard Allen’s police interviews. Allen is accused of murdering Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi in 2017.
Two recorded interviews from October of 2022 were shown in court on Tuesday.
Testimony on Allen’s alleged confessions while in custody started Tuesday, with the former warden and several correctional officers from Westville Correctional Facility- where Allen has been held- taking the stand.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – A state forensic expert has testified at Richard Allen’s double murder trial in Delphi that his DNA was not found at the scene.
Indiana State Police forensic scientist Stacy Bozinovski did the rape kits on both Abby Williams and Libby German and said neither had been raped and there was no evidence of any sexual assaults.
She also testified that the hair found in Abby’s hand was from her sister and was a one-in-eight-trillion match.

UPDATE (October 22, 2024):
DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The fourth day of Richard Allen’s trial for allegedly killing Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi in 2017 brought an aggressive cross-examination of an investigator. Brian Olehy was the lead crime scene investigator and was asked by defense attorney Brad Rozzi if any DNA collected at the crime scene was connected to Allen. Olehy said he was not aware of any and added there were no defensive injuries on German’s body. Rozzi’s questioning was objected to several times by prosecutors.
Jurors also watched a longer portion of a video from Libby German’s phone showing the “Bridge Guy” – prosecutors allege that man was Allen.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – Graphic crime scene photos were displayed during the third day of Richard Allen’s trial for allegedly killing Abby Williams and Libby German in February 2017 in Delphi.
Blood stains could be seen on both of their bodies, and Libby was naked in the photos. Abby was shown lying on her back, and jurors and others at the trial gasped in horror at some of the images.
Allen showed no emotion as the pictures were displayed.

DELPHI, Ind. (ADAMS) – The jury in Richard Allen’s double murder trial in Delphi is likely to get details on the murder scene on Monday.
Allen is charged with killing best friends Libby German and Abby Williams in February 2017 when they were walking on the Monon High Bridge during a day off from school.
Jurors heard testimony on Saturday from Jacob Johns and Pat Brown, with Johns describing the clothing he found on tree roots in Deer Creek and Brown recalling finding their bodies a few minutes later.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The jury is set for Richard Allen’s double murder trial that will be held in Carroll County. His defense team revealed during the selection process yesterday that there was hair found in the hand of one victim, Abby Williams, that did not match his hair.
Allen is charged with killing Williams and Libby German in February 2017 and was arrested in October 2022. The jurors were selected from Allen County and the opening statements in Carroll County are scheduled for Friday.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The man accused in the deaths of two teenage girls in the Indiana area more than seven years ago will stand trial. Prosecutors say Richard Allen murdered 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German in the small city of Delphi while the two were hiking.
Monday was the first day of jury selection in the case which has garnered nationwide attention.
Monday ended with eight women and six men selected. The full jury is expected to be chosen on Tuesday, which would mean no court proceedings will be held on Wednesday.
The case went unsolved for years before Allen was eventually arrested in 2022 with new evidence.
