FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker is speaking out about three shootings that happened early Sunday and early Monday morning, killing two people and injuring 11 others, including two children.
Tucker says “these are the things that we should be irate about” and says violence cannot be a habit. She adds people cannot sit quiet about the issue, especially after a successful new parade and the July Fourth fireworks marked the celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.
The following was released:
Statement from Mayor Sharon Tucker on recent violence in Fort Wayne
My heart is heavy today as I think about the recent violence that has occurred in our city.
I’m praying today for peace for our community. It saddens me that senseless acts of violence with guns have resulted in multiple deaths, several more people being injured, and two little innocent children being victims as well.
Many families have been impacted. It’s my hope that they can find comfort today through the love and support of family members and all of Fort Wayne.
We must value life. It’s so precious. We must get back to respect and care for one another.
If you have any information, please contact the Fort Wayne Police Department. We have to stop making it comfortable for people to terrorize our community. Those who create chaos don’t get to determine the outcome.
I have confidence in the Fort Wayne Police Department as they continue their investigations. Those responsible will be brought to justice.
We will get through these challenges together. It won’t be easy, but I know that our residents will rise up and help ensure that Fort Wayne will bounce back and be stronger and more united than ever before.
