DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police (ISP) say a woman is facing charges after she hit a DeKalb County sergeant’s vehicle on I-69. It happened on Wednesday around 3:30 a.m. near the 323-mile marker.
Police say the Fort Wayne woman, Keondra Brooks, was possibly under the influence when her vehicle swerved into a median where the sergeant’s Dodge Durango was sitting.
ISP released the following:
On July 8, 2026 just before 3:30am, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant was parked in a crossover on Interstate 69 near the 323‑mile marker, observing traffic, when his vehicle was struck from behind by a northbound vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2015 Chrysler, driven by Keondra Brooks (35) of Fort Wayne was traveling north on I‑69 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle swerved left and entered the median. The Chrysler then collided with the rear of the Sergeant’s marked Dodge Durango, which was stationary in the median at the time. The Sergeant’s K9 partner was also inside the vehicle during the collision.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post responded to the scene along with other first responders. Both Sergeant Brett Parker and his K9 partner were not injured in the crash.
Ms. Brooks sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Alcohol has been identified as a potential factor in the crash. The Auburn Police Department is conducting the operating‑while‑intoxicated portion of the investigation.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department, Garrett Police Department, Auburn fire Department, Parkview EMS, DeKalb Central Communications, Tony’s Towing, and Noel’s Towing.
