FORT WAYNE, Ind. The following was released:
The arbitrator resolved the final open issue – paid sick leave for off-duty injuries – by determining that the language would remain unchanged. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, if approved by City Council, firefighters will receive up to 12 months of full pay and benefits for all off-duty illnesses or injuries. The City had proposed limiting nonduty-related illnesses or injuries to nine months. All other issues, including wages and other benefits, were resolved by agreement prior to the arbitration. The new contract will incorporate all of the parties’ agreements along with the final resolution on sick pay.
The City and IAFF Local 124 agreed that the decision made by the arbitrator is final and binding. The next step in the process is for City Council to vote on a new collective bargaining agreement between the City and IAFF Local 124.
Mayor Tucker and Chief Lahey support the excellent work that’s performed each day by the women and men of the Fort Wayne Fire Department to protect property and save lives.
In addition, Mayor Tucker and Chief Lahey commit to continue to ensure that the City remains responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. Senate Enrolled Act 1 implemented by the Indiana General Assembly and Governor Mike Braun has placed significant limitations on the growth of property and income tax revenues to continue to provide the vital services that the public has come to expect from local government.
Residents, neighborhoods, and businesses can take comfort in knowing that public safety is a top priority under Mayor Tucker’s leadership.
