FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say that one man is fighting for his life after a crash Tuesday morning.
Officers say that a child was also transported from the scene to a hospital. His condition is not known.
Police say the boy and the man, who was driving, were both trapped in the vehicle after it crashed into a parked trailer on Fillmore Street just before 7:30 a.m. According to police, another boy was in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was able to get out.
The FWPD is still investigating but says that right now, speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
The following was issued just before 11 a.m. Tuesday:
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at approximately 7:21 AM, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the 2200 block of Fillmore St. in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a parked trailer.
Upon arrival, Officers found a male/adult driver and a male/juvenile trapped in the vehicle. Another uninjured male/juvenile was in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was out before the police arrived. The Fort Wayne Fire Department worked to free the two remaining occupants. Paramedics then transported the trapped occupants to a local hospital where the driver was found to have life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling northbound on Filmore and struck a parked trailer on the west side (opposite) of the street. Investigators reported speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Fillmore St. remains closed while investigators process the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
